This hair type is often called Type 4 hair and, if you're into the hair typing system, comprises of types 4a, 4b and 4c hair.

This is the most naturally dry hair type category -- and, surprisingly enough, the most fragile -- due to the tight curls that block our body's sebum (a natural moisturizer) from traveling all the way from your roots to the ends of your hair in order to keep it hydrated, free of dryness, breakage and split ends. Because of this, this hair type requires deeper, heavier moisturizing than most other hair textures because it is less likely to stay hydrated for long periods of time. Many women with Tight Curls + Coils find they have "low porosity" hair, which means their hair doesn't accept or retain moisture for extended periods of time. In other words, their hair seems to suck up moisture like a sponge almost as soon as they apply moisture to their hair; and for some, it may appear to take a while before their hair even feels fully soaked when water is added.

For most people with this hair type, they will require daily moisturizing with an excellent moisturizer that has water as the first ingredient, along with great natural and other ingredients that will help to retain an optimal moisture level in the hair. Products that have Mineral Oil (aka "parafinnium liquidum") are an absolute no-no for Type 4 hair, as it blocks moisture from penetrating the hair shaft, and the last thing anyone with dry hair needs is something that's going to dry it out even more.

Our Tight Curls + Coils Collection is formulated specifically for those with this hair texture. It is thicker in consistency and more dense. Generally, more coarse and kinky hair textures require deeper moisturizing and hydration, as this hair type tends to be drier than others. The thicker consistency of the Tight Curls + Coils Collection provides that much needed hydration, while allowing the hair to move and not be stiff.

This hair type is often called Type 3 hair and, if you're into the hair typing system, comprises of types 3a, 3b and 3c hair.

This hair type has wider, and often "silkier" curls than more coarse hair textures. Many naturals with this hair type find that their hair is fine and sometimes doesn't have as much volume as others, or their hair can go "limp" and perhaps not hold a curl as well as more kinkier hair textures.

Those in this hair type category find that their hair gets dry, but typically after a few days at a time. Because of this, this hair type requires deep, yet lighter-weight moisturizing than most other curly hair textures because it is more likely to stay hydrated longer than more naturally drier textures. (Heavy hair care products will build up on this hair type and cause it to become limp and/or not hold a curl for long.) Many women with Medium to Loose Curls + Waves find they have "high porosity" hair, which means their hair gets wet quickly and easily when applying water to it. It also is able to become mositurized very quickly, but doesn't necessarily retain this moisture for more than a day or so at a time.

For most people with this hair type, they will need to moisturize their hair every few days with an excellent moisturizer that has water as the first ingredient, along with great natural and other ingredients that will help to retain an optimal moisture level in the hair to keep breakage, brittleness, and split ends away. While necessary to lock in moisture, those with Medium to Loose Curls + Waves should go light on oils, to prevent their hair from becoming greasy or weighed down.

Our Medium to Loose Curls + Waves collection is formulated perfectly for this hair type. It is less dense, which prevents the "weigh down" that often occurs for fine hair textured naturals when looking for a deeply moisturizing product, while providing the perfect balance of hydration.
